Belgian fashion designer Dries Van Noten has announced that he will be stepping down as creative director of his fashion label this summer. Known for his luxurious colors and avant-garde styles, Van Noten began his career as part of the so-called Antwerp Six, who trained at the city’s Royal Academy of Fine Arts in the 1980s.

Career Highlights Van Noten’s

Van Noten’s designs have been celebrated for their unique blend of beauty, craft, and function. He has been recognized with numerous awards, including the international designer of the year award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 2008. His latest womenswear collection, presented in Paris, was praised for bringing a note of color and excitement to everyday items.

Decision to Step Down

In a statement, Van Noten expressed his gratitude for his career and his clients, saying, “Seeing our clothes out in the world has fulfilled me beyond words“. He also acknowledged the importance of passing the baton to a new generation of talents, stating, “I have been preparing for this moment for a while, and I feel it’s time to leave room for a new generation of talents to bring their vision to the brand”.

Future Plans

Van Noten’s successor will be announced in due time, and his studio team will handle the next womenswear collection. The brand, which has expanded into beauty and perfume lines and e-commerce since being acquired by the Spanish conglomerate Puig in 2018, will continue to flourish under new leadership.

Legacy and Involvement

Despite stepping down as creative director, Van Noten will still be involved in the fashion house, ensuring that his unique vision and legacy continue to inspire future collections. His journey in the fashion world began as a young guy from Antwerp with a dream to have a voice in fashion, and through his dedication and hard work, that dream came true.
